Not likely that the holes were punched there during manufacture. I'm not
aware of any time the factory did anything like that. More likely that they
were drilled in the boot lid by either the dealer or PO for an Amco rack.
TeriAnn is right. The factory optional rack hooked to the hinges and did
not require holes in the boot lid. (I have an Amco rack on my TR3A, FWIW
and it hasn't rusted or caused any problems other than being a pain in the
...foot when washing and waxing the car.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, SOLers (and I *know* you will.) but aren't Amco
racks still available?
