The Vitesse workshop manual gives the following test:

        - clamp the spring at the centre (4" wide clamp) and apply test 
          load at the spring eye

        - deflection measurements are taken from the spring eye axis to the
          line extending from the bottom face of the spring where it is
          clamped (**this WOULD be a lot easier with a diagram **).

        - with a load of 1302 pounds applied,the eye axis to spring bottom 
          distance is 1.88" +/-0.13.
