All the following pertains to my 76 TR6.
The Moss TR6 catalog has a section near the front which discusses
Triumph commission numbers (Production Data in table of contents). It
states that the commission number found on the left hand door post
(North American cars) should match the body number stamped on the right
hand bulk panel except that the two letters will come after the number
instead of before as on the door post. I looked over my car and here's
what I found:
1. The left hand door post contains a valid looking metal plate which
states the commission number as CF58310 UO built in July 1976. My
windshield door frame also contains a plate with the identical number.
2. The body number however does not match this in any way. Similar to
the drawing in the catalog, I have two body number plates. The lower one
(it's painted over in the car color even though my car has never been
repainted) has the number 44438CE. The upper plate (not painted over)
has the number T42715CF.
3. My engine number (again I believe it's original) is CF48160UE.
Any insights into what's going on here???
I have owned thsi car since 1982 at which time it had 39,000 miles. To
the best of my knowledge, all major components (especially the body :-)
are original.
Just wondering...
