XHERALD man,
I can't offer any advise regarding the steering stop lock, when I rebuilt my
front end I didn't worry about it too much. As far as removing the springs
go's, the long threaded rod is the safest method. The only other almost safe
method is as follows:
1. Put the car up on jack stands.
2. Place a jack under the lower A-frame plate and jack up that side to
compress the spring. You might use a piece of 2 x 4 as a pad.
3. Un-bolt the A-frame plate, and slowly lower the jack. It is best to wear
a crash helmet and flack jacket when doing this (just kidding).
4. When the tension is released from the spring, it is safe to remove.
This is how I did it. In retrospect, I should have gotten the threaded rod,
it's safer.
