Sharon, THANKS MUCH! Y'all might wonder (maybe not?) why I was looking
for the phone number. Funny, really. I happened to be home late yesterday
afternoon. I answered the telephone, only to find myself talking to Mark
Robbins, of said Robbins Top Co. Turns out they are in process of
updating their catalog, and the kind folks at TRF had given Mark my name
and number as VTR's Herald/Vitesse Consultant. Mark wanted to
double-check some information regarding Herald and Vitesse tops, mostly
years of the models, etc. To me, it's good to know that they plan to
continue to support models such as these. I've not seen one of their
Herald/Vitesse tops, but I'll assume that they are every bit as good as
their other products. (The thing is, though, Mark caught me off-guard,
and only after hanging up did I realize that we'd both made a slight
detail mistake in the years of Herald conv. manufacture; that's why I
wanted to call back.)

Fellow Stanpart Scions might remember a while back that I pondered the
question of why Robbins does NOT install the snaps on their Spitfire
Mk.IV tops (and most others). I decided to ask Mark this question (it
WAS his dime, after all ;-) ), and his explanation was certainly more
than reasonable. Their experience has been that, over the years, enough
of these cars have been repaired, repainted, etc. to the extent that
fasteners on the body might have been repositioned, if only slightly.
Needless to say, it's easier to fit snaps to a top than to reposition
their counterparts on a freshly painted car (or to remove existing snaps
and leave holes in a new top). They do install most snaps and other
attachment hardware on late MGB tops, but that's about it.
