I don't know about TR3's, but I was looking at the Bentley manual for
my TR6 (includes TR250, and I think the steering gear was shared by the TR4),
and it states the rack should get 5 strokes of grease, not oil. The trunnions
are supposed to get oil (what a pain).

BTW, I (re)invented a trick to tighten steering rack mounts on TR6's/
etc. There's some funky tool for compressing them that no one has, and trying
to compress them with visegrips/etc from above didn't work. However, using a
monster screwdriver from below to pry the mounting plate seems to work quite
well. I just finished last night getting my '6 ready for a long round-trip
to my 15th prep-school reunion - installing the uprated front springs that've
been in my garage for 4 years (when I did the rears), tightening the rack,
removing the spacers a PO put between the cross-member and one of the front
suspension pillars, etc. Tomorrow I'll get it aligned (which was why I was
finally dealing with these things - aligning it without them would be silly),
and get the new tires mounted. If all goes well, the positive camber on the
r.f. will be fixed, and the annoying shimmy at 60mph+ will be gone.

I went with Yoko A378's, 205/70-15. Interestingly, I got no responses
to my questions about TR6 tires, and the Yoko's seemed to be the highest-
performance tires in 70 series I could find. I wasn't willing to go to 60
series because the '6 is already too-low-geared on the highway without an
overdrive. The 205/70's are supposed to be about 1.5% smaller than the stock
185/80's. I considered Yoko AVS Int. 215/65-15's, but was somewhat paranoid
going to them on 5.5" rims, and worried about possible rubbing. Also, I think
they're a bit smaller rolling radius than the 205/70's. Also, the AVS's would
have taken time to get that I didn't have.
