I know the scope of your comment was glasspacks vs box mufflers, but I've
been told over several years that some glasspacks can be worse than a "box"
muffler.  As far as unrestrictive box types go, Flowmasters are supposed to
be pretty good, working on a simple acoustic cancellation principle.  I had
one on my DSP '71 Corolla for a while, and it "felt" better than my louvered
glasspack, but like I said, no quantitative test results.  We'll have to see
what others have to say.  BCNU-
