I wrote that they don't restrict flow like a box muffler, and this was
really the scope of the comparison. I have not done any flow
measurement tests, so I can't say whether glass packs are more restrictive
than a straight pipe of comparable diameter. If I had to venture a guess
though, I'd say the difference is very minimal, and perhaps would not be
noticeable from behind the wheel.
It is a good question to speculate about.
We've all read the advertisements for brand 'X' muffler being better
than a straight pipe. I wonder if there exist non-biased studies on this?
