I'm going to add to my post about having to always check that the
brakelights are working - like against the garage wall every time I started
the car. I will add that the wall is deceiving. I did checked all the
time too - and against any truck/car behind me at a light that happened to
have chrome on the grille that reflected my brake lights. I found though
that I did not realize the pressure I put on for the "test" was not the
same lighter touch that I might use while driving where I'd want my lights
to be going on anyway. That is, I thought my brake lights were working,
but in reality they didn't go on unless I gave a decent pressure to the
pedal. But, if I am at all touching that pedal, I want the lights on. So
that's how I set up my mechanical switch - more warning, sooner. Something
to think about.
