Thanks guys for the additional info. I had always wondered about what the o=
riginal generator pulley might have been. And I learned the hard way that t=
he Tiger mounting bracket was different fro the stock 260 falcon one. Anyon=
e need a stock 260 falcon generator mounting bracket?!=20

Many thanks to all of you for sharing your collective wisdom. The expertise=
available through all of you here on the List, and the willingness to shar=
e it, continues to amaze.=20
I did find what might be a useful under drive pulley.=20
https://www.npdlink.com/store/products/mustang_pulley_generator_stamped_fin=
s-100767-431.html=20
But at $280 it does not make sense to spend that amount of money together w=
ith the $110 for the remanufactured generator, I would have $390 invested i=
n a solution that is inferior to an generator look-alike alternator for abo=
ut the same amount of money. Plus something tells me that the pulley may on=
ly be 3.75 inches in diameter, whick would onlu give me about a 12 percent =
speed reduction. That is based on what I see for $900 on ebay:=20
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Mustang-AC-Cobra-OE-Restored-Fomoco-HIPO-Gener=
ator-Dynamo-/350893612053?hash=3Ditem51b2e39c15&vxp=3Dmtr=20
Cost aside, I had not factored in the possibility my 347 may need a pusher =
fan for cooling in very hot, slow speed weather/driving conditions. So far =
in 80 degree weather last year, the griffin radiator, 6 blade fan and reduc=
ed diameter pulley keep things nicely in the desired 195-205 degree engine =
temp range. Have not had a chance to see how things go under more stressful=
conditions. Thanks Mark L for mentioning a cooling aspect I had not though=
t of. Hate to have a generator setup that will not drive a pusher fan near =
idle if it turns out I need one.=20
So for the time being I will just stick with the new generator and stock pu=
lley. We will see it it lasts through its one year replacement warranty.!=
=20
I learned a lot through asking the questions, thanks again everyone for sha=
ring your knowledge.=20

Subject: RE: [Tigers] high speed generator pulley=20
I don=E2=80=99t think the Hi-Po pulley has the same offset as the Tiger pul=
ley, you will have to redo the mounts if that is the case to get the belt a=
ligned.=20
I=E2=80=99ve been through this dilemma on Tigers and other old Fords with g=
enerators. They were marginal when five grand was the upper rev limit, toda=
y most modern engine rebuilds are good for 6500 or more. Mechanically the g=
enerator is not really designed to spin at high speeds very long (Tigers ru=
n around 3K at 70), the bearings will overheat and spall, the brushes float=
and arc, the commutator breaks down, and then really ugly things begin to =
happen. Going to the Hi-Po larger pulley helps but you now have a lack of c=
urrent at lower speeds from a 25% or so reduction in rpm. The combination o=
f your headlamps, tail lamps, gauges, fuel pump, and ignition will consume =
around 270 watts, that=E2=80=99s 20 amps at 13.5 volts, and the generators =
I=E2=80=99ve had rebuilt might pump out 25 amps on a good day at max rpm, b=
ut at cruising speeds you=E2=80=99re lucky to get half that. Add a GPS, coo=
ling fan or other accessory and you will run out of juice.=20
So what=E2=80=99s the option? Obviously an alternator is the way to go, eve=
n under-driven they put out three times the current. But they look so moder=
n. As an alternative I have now installed three PowerGen alternators that l=
ook just like the generator. They can generate over 30 amps at idle and are=
good for 7000 rpm engines. They ain=E2=80=99t cheap but they look just lik=
e the OEM generator. They make a one-wire and a two-wire version, the Tiger=
offset pulley bolts right up.=20

Hi All,=20
In the book Performance Tuning the Tiger there is mention and a picture of =
a larger than stock generator pulley which slows the generator down and mak=
es it happier to be run at higher motor RPM's. Call me crazy, but I would l=
ike to find such a pulley and keep using a generator for the totally stock =
look on my higher reving 347 motor. BTW, my current pulley is about 3.25 in=
ches in diameter.=20
My current generator needs to be replaced and I have a remanufactured one o=
n order. It comes without a pulley. So as long as I have to put a pulley on=
it, I am thinking if I could find a la rger diameter one that would fit, w=
hy not?=20
I know there are alternators now available packaged in a generator looking =
style case but I really do not want to go there at the present time.=20
So does anyone know anything about that larger diameter generator pulley me=
ntioned in the book? A part number? Maybe it is stock for some of the other=
generators back in the day?=20
Any and all info would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.=20

nerators. They were marginal when five grand was the upper rev limit, today=
most modern engine rebuilds are good for 6500 or more. Mechanically the ge=
nerator is not really designed to spin at high speeds very long (Tigers run=
around 3K at 70), the bearings will overheat and spall, the brushes float =
and arc, the commutator breaks down, and then really ugly things begin to h=
appen. Going to the Hi-Po larger pulley helps but you now have a lack of cu=
rrent at lower speeds from a 25% or so reduction in rpm. The combination of=
your headlamps, tail lamps, gauges, fuel pump, and ignition will consume a=
round 270 watts, that=E2=80=99s 20 amps at 13.5 volts, and the generators I=
=E2=80=99ve had rebuilt might pump out 25 amps on a good day at max rpm, bu=
t at cruising speeds you=E2=80=99re lucky to get half that. Add a GPS, cool=
ing fan or other accessory and you will run out of juice.</span><span style=

what=E2=80=99s the option? Obviously an alternator is the way to go, even =
under-driven they put out three times the current. But they look so modern.=
As an alternative I have now installed three PowerGen alternators that loo=
k just like the generator. They can generate over 30 amps at idle and are g=
ood for 7000 rpm engines. They ain=E2=80=99t cheap but they look just like =
the OEM generator. They make a one-wire and a two-wire version, the Tiger o=
