Hey Paul,
The hardest part of the Ignitor installation is removing the ballast resistor
and re-wiring the hot to the coil, the Ignitor I is pretty much a drop in.
Their instructions are reasonable, it's straight forward. There are YouTube
installation videos for some of these, might want to check.
I installed the Pertronix Ignitor III unit in my non-vacuum Dual Point along
with their high output (0.3 Ohm) coil. I have not had great success with the
Pertronix Ignitor I in this particular application, I have a couple bad units
sitting on the shelf, they don't seem very tolerant of power drops/surges or
high heat. The Pertronix Ignitor III has better and hotter spark control above
4K, uses the existing points cam as the trigger (not a sleeve), is
electrically isolated, is more tolerant of voltage issues, and has a settable
rev limiter that works pretty well. I set mine to 6800 rpm (this 289 floats
above 7200) and the cut-off seems to be accurate (+/- 50 rpm) according to my
digital tach. I think I am getting about 95% of what an MSD box would do for
me without all the extra wiring and parts. You WILL need good high tension
wires and the best cap you can find, this setup makes a lot of spark!
I also have the Pertronix Flame Thrower distributor that uses the Ignitor II
unit in my 331 stroker, it has been set-and-forget since installation, but not
exactly concours. I did have to do a little grinding on the F4B to get
clearance for this dizzy, but the area is hidden. Don't think Vic would be too
upset.

Good Morning,
I am considering installing one of these units in one of my Tigers. As
simple as it looks, are there any surprises I am not seeing?
Paul
