And don't forget, the factory drag Tiger, class world champion and AHRA record
holder (for 3 years), was stock with factory options. And that was with 5.5
inch wheels and 1960s rubber.

My first Tiger, purchased around the same time (late '69) was bone stock
except for the wheels. It was a great driver, and I remember thinking aloud
that the car seemed well engineered for a V-8 transplanted into a 4 banger.
At no time did the car ever give me the impression it was a 'hack job'. I
didn't know much about Shelby's involvement at the time, and knew even less
about Rootes, but my stock Tiger was lacking in nothing as far as I was
concerned. Except for the fact I was in high school, and you can never have
enough power in high school!
