Kirk,
I am embarrassed to admit, but I was one of those guys in the 70s with monster
flares, chin spoiler and B50-13 (215/50-13) tires on Libres that showed up to
the meetings at the Pacifica in Marina Del Rey. I would NEVER do that to my
car nowadays.
I am in the process of finding out what a two Tiger family is like. I have a
400+ hp 331 stroker in my hot rod Tiger and just pickup a second Tiger to
restore to bone stock with LAT options. There is nothing on my hot rod that
could not be converted back to stock. In my old age I have become much more of
a purist, yet still have that kid inside wanting to get out.

I feel like I know Ian, even though I never met him. I had a Tiger the
whole time Ian lived in Marina Del Rey.sometimes the CAT meetings were at
the Pacifica Hotel (I think that's what it was called at the time).I lived
less than 5 minutes from both. Yet, I was too busy with college, dating,
working, motorcycles, and, just driving my Tiger, to find time to be in a
club. I'm pretty sure we must have crossed paths at least a few times
during that era, but fate never had us in the same place at the same time.
I get the spirit of what Tigering- Ian style- is about. For me, bending
sheet metal was not a tasty alternative. I saw many of the monster fender
flared Tigers of the '70s, and although cool to look at, it wasn't something
I wanted to do to my car. Stock Tigers were just begging for a few
benefits, and I didn't have any concerns about power and handling mods, I
just didn't want to bend any sheet metal. B60-13 tires (205/60-13) fit just
fine on Libre wheels- how much tire does a guy need? F4B and a Holley- yes!
It put my first Tiger, as well as my current Tiger, in the 'personalized'
category, the place that a lot of us find ourselves at.
I sometimes wonder if, big if, I ever had 2 Tigers at the same time, would I
have a stock Tiger and a modified Tiger? I don't think I'll ever find out.
I'll take my 'personalized' Tiger and enjoy it my way. It's nice to know I
could go back to stock just by collecting a few parts, but I don't see that
happening anytime soon, either. The spirit of Ian lives on!
