While you relate the spitting back through the carburetor, I'm wondering if 
the hard braking and inertia caused the engine to shift (possible broken 
motor mount) and the fan is hitting the steering rack (or something else). 
You might want to look for scuff marks anywhere in the area the fan rotates.
