Someone wrote a few years back that it was crap build up inside of  the 
switch that caused failure and that it could somehow be cleaned rather than  
replaced.  I've never tried cleaning one and normally have had them last  for 
about 
5 years with Castro brake fluid.  I think the mechanical switch  is the way to 
go.
