valve cover bolt

Does anybody have a tool they can recommend to be able to get at the valve
cover bolt nearest the driver footwell (LHD?). It's mighty tight in there
through the firewall access hole and even my 1/4 inch drive socket set is too
tall and tight against the cast valve cover. I have tried robogrips, open and
closed end wrenches and nothing seems to get at it. I'm thinking about buying
another socket and cutting it shorter.
