Rodney,
I have used the Optima, very successfully, in 4 cars. Some dealers have
the 5 year warrantee with 3 year without proportioning age discount.
There were only 2 types, since it has both side and centered posts. You
have your choice of the regular use Red Top, or the Marine Use Yellow
top. The Marine battery does NOT have this warranty, but is capable of
deep discharge needed in Marine applications at much higher prices.
Not needed for cars in garages with a battery minder ($35-$75 and a must
have). A small battery minder for long storage (NOT "TRICKLE CHARGER")
is fine for garage storage for long periods. Also, the "filler" caps
are sealed, and have to "breather tube". No maintenance.
Even with the centered posts, it fits with much room to spare in the
current battery tray and clamps, but be prepared of about a 25% increase
in available battery space.
If you want "original looks" you are going to have to find a battery
that accepts the filler cap breathing plug and overboard tubes. Be
prepared for the worst battery available.
