I have used Optima batteries in many cars for years. Yes, they don't
look stock, but mine are 5 year warranty, 3 year free replacement, and
never needed to use the warranty. No fumes, acid leaks, water addition,
smell. Plenty of shelf life.
I do recommend a small battery "keep" charged device, made ONLY for
keeping a battery topped-up between long periods of disuse. These are
NOT "trickle chargers", and will NOT charge a very low battery. They
are only meant to keep the battery from degrading, and are quite small.
Maybe 2 to 3 inches on a side. Cost $35 to $70 each and are worth
every penny for cars that are NOT daily drivers.
Apparently Derrick agrees.
