There was a question about what is "Bloomington Gold." Without boring
everyone too much, every year since the 70's in Bloomington, Illinois, an event
is
held to honor the finest Corvettes in the world. This is the "granddaddy" of
all Corvette events. Depending on the quality of the Corvette as it relates
to its originality, a participant could earn a Gold, Silver or Bronze award.
The closer a Corvette comes to the way it came left the factory, the better
the award. They also have restoration workshops and Corvette auctions too, but
the car judging is the premier function. The event is now held in
Springfield, IL because it became too large.
Several years ago, the event's owners started a class of award called
"Survivor." Corvettes that were original and unmolested, but haven't been
restored
and only maintained. For these Corvettes, they devised the "Survivor" award.
They trademarked the term "Survivor" as it relates, I guess, to cars in
general. Some automotive magazines attempted to use the word "Survivor" in
print
and received nasty letters from the lawyers representing Bloomington Gold.
They defend the term with religious fervor.
