With enough money and enough work any engine could be stuffed into
that Alpine as you indicated.
The Ken Miles Alpine/Tiger proto type has a Ford V8 with automatic trans and
a lot of engineering of parts; the engine is set forward so little or no
cutting was needed. The firewall was completely re-tooled for the Tiger so
the engine could be set back and there are many other changes. It would
involve a lot of cutting, forming, welding, time and money to do correctly.
There are a number of Alpine owners who have converted to the Ford
V6 engine. It seems to fit very nicely and the owners indicate that it is
a much easier conversion than the V8, plus it gives nearly the performance
of the V8. Some owners that have also owned Tigers like the V6 Alpine
conversion better.
Another conversion I have seen is a Mazda Rotary engine. I'm sure others
are very possible.
I suggest you join Tigers East/ Alpines East; there are a number of
members with the V6 conversion and I believe Steve Towle of Merrimack NH has
done several of them.

Subject: Sunbeam Alpine
Hi All
Im new to this list and joined because in my experience this is the best
place to get the information you want. I do not own a Sunbeam tiger but
would like to have one I have always been interested but never pursued
it and now the prices are getting up there. I recently found a sunbeam
alpine sitting in a yard here in Vermont. Its pretty rough but can be
fixed it will never be a concourse car. The four cylinder motor is
seized and my question would be, can you put a Ford 289 and 4 speed into
an Alpine without much trouble I have read of people putting 302's and
T-5 5 speeds into Tigers so I would assume that you could put one into
an alpine body. I know that you can fabricate any motor into any car( I
was involved in putting a small block Chevy into a Mercedes 300 series
car) But I really don't want to cut the car up that bad. So any
Information would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
