Tigers.
I wrote the following message to the seller:
"Dear aboss429ataol,
This does not appear to be the Rootes LAT 2 ,LAT 8 authentic Tiger valve
cover option. Rootes catalogs and lists only "TIGER" Powered by Ford
(smaller) and for later Chrysler dominated production the "Powered by
Ford" was removed. According to all Rootes Tiger literature this is NOT
a Tiger item, although it could have been a Shelby "Cobra" item modified
with fin grinding. Do you have documentation that this is a Rootes LAT
or Factory accessory, or might it be unintentionally mislabeled in this
offer? I do have the original Rootes color catalogs."
After about 5 repeat replies in which he says:
"Hello
I am the first to admit I am not a Tiger expert...I have had these valve
covers for about 15 years and bought these and a few other Tiger parts
off a guy who had sold his car and told me these were his spares. These
are definitely original 1960's/1970''s type Cobra valve covers and are
not some recent reproduction item. If they were a "dress up" item versus
original equipment I really would not know and will defer to your
expertise. I have not intentionally incorrectly listed these and if they
are not what someone expected, I will take them back. Hope this clears
things up.
Randy"
He concludes with another message stating:
"FYI
I did not know these were not originals and have revised the listing to
reflect these are "dress up" items. Thank-you
Randy"
His "Revision" consisted of :
"This auction is for an original used pair of COBRA LETTERED 289 Sunbeam
Tiger Valve Covers. These apparently are part of a dressup package
offered by Ford in the l60's or 70's. They are Cobra Lettered and fit
1965 1966 models. The fins are trimmed so the back edges can clear the
fire wall. These original pieces are very hard to find. Buyer to pay
$25.00 shipping and handling fees. Canadian, Post Office and
International rates will vary. I accept PAYPAL, checks and money orders.
If you have any questions please ask. Thank-you and Happy E-baying!"
Note the "clarification" seems to consists of calling it "apparently" a
"dressup package offered by Ford - - -" Yet the Auction title remains
"Cobra 1965-1966 FORD TIGER VALVE COVERS". Currently bid at $350 USD,
the buyer better be able to read between the lines and discern that Ford
Dealers did NOT sell Rootes Tiger accessories.
Caveat Emptor, and it doesn't hurt to write the seller. Sometimes it
works. At least we know the difference, and will not overbid on an
inauthentic item. If more people wrote clearly stated questions, the
seller might react. Any flat out denials on known misrepresentations
can be reported to eBay.
