Your're right about the front turn signal grounding being suspect
to loosing its ground.  The outside screw that goes into the
speed nut that is clipped to the turn signal cutout, is the ground.
Enough water and mud thrownup against it by the tires will cause
intermittent operation.  Running the screw in and out can cause
wondrous things to happen.  A right turn that causes the left
brake light to come on, etc.  Turning the screw just 1/8 turn and the
turn light will work correctly.

There was a CAT tech tip about running aground ground to the
turn signal.  Also the grounds under the front bonnet bumper
are quite hokey.
