Dave,

Wind resistance goes as speed squared and horsepower as speed cubed. If you
needed 200 more horsepower to go 150 than 135, that means you would have
needed 538 HP just to go 135. Obviously that's not reasonable. I think just
about any Tiger with a reasonable warm engine will run 135 mph. I would
estimate that 250 HP or maybe less should do the trick. Then, to go 150 mph
you would need 343 HP. This is a significant step up, but not as bad as your
engineers said. I'm sure Mayf has a pretty good handle on what the drag
coefficient and horsepower requirements are since he is preparing an Alpine
for a land speed record. We had quite a detailed discussion of this topic a
couple of years back.

Why not ask Dan Walters. He has driven the
track and while he made it through turn #5,
he got kinked further on. RA is a great place to let the
beast growl.

Once was told that due to the 'superb' aerodynamics
of the body, 138 is about all it'll do. To go faster
you have to remove or cutdown the windshield
ala Tom Patton or streamline the body ala
Lemans Tiger. Replacing the scooped headlight
rings is also a must. The Lemans Tiger and Patton
have done this also. Years ago after being timed
at 135+ at the Ford proving grounds I asked what
it would take to do 150. The engineers said
without fixing the aerodynamics, it would take about
200 more hp and that was not possible with the
small block engine. Remember the Lemans
Tiger, fully race prepared, was timed at 157 at
the Lemans. Face it, the stock Tiger while looking
great has the aerodynamics of a brick.
