Tom,
I am not sure about this one, BUT, if it one of the "SROD" four speeds
with a 4th less than 1:1, (as I am assuming your quest for a 0.7 4th
indicates), I would warn you of the commentary on the rest of the
ratios. The all stink. There are huge gaps between gears, and your
performance (I am told) will really suffer.
I totally recommend, and have done, a change to the Mk II type "wide
ratio", whose gear spacing is not what is normally expected by those
words (although the SROD is, reportedly). The gears are only 200 rpm at
speed shift points different between 2-3 and 3-4 than the "close ratio".
The big deal is that the first gear is NOT a 60 mph gear, it really
digs, and you can make a stock 260 with 2.88's peel rubber in first, get
rubber in second and even third. Totally strong and highly recommended.
Easy to fit 5 and 6 bolt transmissions, in case of change.
I do 72 mph at 3,000 rpm (same as stock with my 175R70's) and the engine
is docile, quiet, and quite happy.
Alternate opinions prevail amongst some SROD owners, and the 5 speed
crowd with the lower strength boxes, and you will hear from them.
Consider everybody's rationale and use.
My $.02 and experience.
