One issue on static that most people fail to address is the condition of the 
male and female plug end for the antenna. Even if new these end can have 
oxidation that will cause loss of quality in reception. Get a burnishing tool 
from an electrical parts and tool supplier, that's all it took to clean up 
reception in several of my cars.
