The key to blasting any item is three fold. The time the media is direct to a
single spot (heat buildup and damage and warpage), pressure and type of
media. Medias can be mild to aggressive, with the more aggressive medias
capable of completely disintegrating the part being blasted. Media comes in a
wide array of materials and 'grit.' Glass beads, cracked steel shot (and of
various mess), walnut hulls, plastics, natural sands, carborundum and many
other materials.
Remember, too aggressive and you damage the part. Not aggressive and the part
will not be suitable for painting, coating, etc.
Go talk to your local powder coater, they can guide you to a good decision.
