Matt:
I have done this exact repair. I did however opt to leave the square
corners on the TIGER. I made the join over the center of the wheel wells.
My TIGER had been crashed by the P.O. and required a front clip.
The spot welds came apart frighteningly fast. Some of the original welds
held next to nothing and the whole front section came off in about an hour.
I kept the front, outside, frame-horn panels with the fenders and used
those to locate the fenders fore and aft, up and down. I welded pins on all
four corners of the car and then measured diagonally from tip of rear
fender to tip of front fenders to get the exact length. As I welded in the
fenders I assured that the measurements stayed the same. After I re-welded
the spots I seam welded the edges of the fender to frame. An 8 foot long 1
in sq. steel rod held up to the side of the car will let you check that
everything lines up on the side front-to-back. This is the first time I
had under taken such major body work but it came out O.K. and you can not
see any sign of the work even when being extremely critical.
Not sure if this is any help but at least you know that it has been done
before but not perhaps exactly in the way that you plan.
Godspeed
Jc
