Dave,

They fit on the top edge and the lip is snapped over the bottom edge to hold.

That is, unless you've had a really good paint job.  Then you are in trouble.
The paint thickness is great enough to prevent the trim from fitting.  You
should use some sand paper on the top edge, and maybe even the bottom edge, to
reduce the height to stock.  The trim will snap right on, with no beating or
forcing, if you've done it right.

I've even known cases where a razor blade holder and single edge blade were used
to plane the paint from the edges, but not quite down to the steel.  Even if you
do, a light coat of thinned touch-up will protect it.
