Jan,
Having a Rootes bag and a part # does'nt necessarily mean the rivets are
Tiger original or even factory replacements. There was never a part# on the
rivets to match up. As you know Rootes manufactured many models and
supplied parts for all of them. These rivets could be for a Super Snipe for
Christ's sake! Are your rivets made from copper? Do you know what the
original rivets for the chassis ID and spec plate were made of? Maybe a
better description would be that you believe these rivets are a Rootes
factory replacement. They are a good option for replacing a spec. plate or
chassis ID if you inadvertantly removed them for a restoration or had to
repair due to collision or fire.

Using these rivets with a reproduction chassis plate is not an issue. The
issue is why the "car" is in need of the rivets and ID. Many Tiger owners
have had to resort to repro ID due to fire or accidents. Most are
forthcoming and will tell the story behind the new ID. Having a private
auction only leads to the belief that these rivets will be used in a covert
and deceptive manner. With the many possible legitimate reasons to use
these rivets, why the secrecy?

Should we spread the word for the sake of our Marque and those prospective
Tiger buyers that a car without a TAC certificate and with copper rivets may
be a RED flag for an "Alger" conversion?

I don't have a Rootes bag, but if anyone is intersted I have several of
these rivets in the correct metal configuration. They seem to be quite
common at several hobby shops. They are very inexpensive.

I have also heard some good things about Jan and agree with Mr. Laifmans
testimony. Detailed and correct descriptions, along with an open auction
may have been a better tack.

Tim
