I did get an answer from Tigerman citing Norm's web page as reference to
Alger's that have been TAC'd. Goose poop was Norman's response so I think that
issue is settled.
For many reasons, an original AC Cobra is worth more than a replicar, and the
original Mona Lisa is worth more than an excellent copy. A Tiger is worth more
than an Alpine and TAC tells you that you have the real thing.
As a kid, I owned a Hillman Minx, and a Series 2 Alpine, and I always wanted a
real Tiger. My Tiger, TAC 97, won second place by the PO at the '97 United for
originality, and I've been absolutely anal about replacing those little things
that aren't original, and adding LAT parts to it. Does anybody know where I
can get the original hose clamps? This behavior borders on the psychotic.
There is very little that is really original on the car - only replicas of the
original. This is important to preserve the image of history, but that is all
that it is.
I firmly believe that in the future, the most valuable Tiger will be that one
that displays all of it's history - one that has been restored in the least.
Ideally, it would have the same paint, tires, interior, oil, air in the tires -
everything. Markets for other collectibles bear this out. Shine a rare old
coin, and it loses half of it value - often in the thousands of dollars.
Ironically, it was Henry Ford who chastised and converted Andrew Carnegie from
over-restoring valuable antique furniture 75 years ago, and the whole antique
furniture market changed almost overnight.
So if you're interested in market value - make sure it is really a Tiger, and
preserve it, but don't change it. I'm sure I've depreciated the value of my
Tiger because I actually drive it, sometimes even in inclement weather.
Myself, I fantasize about getting another Tiger, and chopping it all up to put
in a 351 or something, and seeing what all you can really get away with on this
platform. This has been the history of the Tiger, as well. Let's just see how
much fun this can be....

I asked the same question a few days ago on this list and have not head from
the Tigerman either. I can only surmise that Norm summed it up correctly
