If your fenderwells are rusted out behind the front wheels the smell
can progress from a front leaking exhaust along the inside of the panel
under the doors and come out in the area of the convertable top
storage area. Also there is a bolt hole welded to the rear inner
fenderwells that is good at rusting out. I had tire smoke comming in there.
As previously stated the seal around the trunk could be bad as well.
The trunk is open to the passenger area. Also if the rear fenderwells
are rusted out you can put exhaust into the trunk around the gas tank
and then onto the wife.
The first thing is to repair the exhaust, so it doesn't leak except at the
very end where is should.
There is also a drain hose from the front area of the rag
top storage area to the rear fenderwell. The hose gets old and srinks
or cracks. This also allows fenderwell air to get into you. Last but not
least, the rubber seals around the doors may be leaking.
