To all:
A friend of mine who works for NASA was telling me the other day about
recent research in the development of non-metal (iron or aluminum)engines.
He was saying that the technology will be available soon to the automotive
performance market in the form of speed items.
Of particular interest was his notation that some sort of glass or silicone
or something sleeves are being developed that will allow almost limitless
block boring. The material (whatever it is)is also said to be virtually
impervious to wear and yet is able to "set" the rings for compression, etc.
Do any listers out there have further information? This technology could
open up a whole new world of performance for those tired 260 and 289 blocks.
