Paul,
You've identified the illness properly, but keep getting the "cure" wrong. Your
problem is NOT the 2.88 rear end. It's that close-ratio first gear. substitute
a set of top loader wide ratio gears and you'll get what your looking for, lots
of off-the-line torque and power. And you'll still have a good 4th cruise (no
change in ratio in top). BTDT, and that's what's wrong with the design. The
MkII got it right. Who needs a 60 mph first gear?
