Jeff,
You are so right, I sure appreciate this medium of communication, we can =
get these things out in the open.
I believe that the value of these cars has to and will start going up =
very soon..
Now I know this has been said for years, but "" THE TIME HAS COMMETH "" =
I believe..
If you get a chance, log on to the HEMMINGS motor news page, they have a =
section talking about collectibles up and coming, or as they call them =
SLEEPERS.. And of course the TIGER is mentioned as such.
We have to protect those newcomers out there, so they don't get stuck =
with " ONE OF THOSE ", and permanently get a bad taste in their mouth =
from the experience.
It is however a very unpleasant feeling, when you meet with someone, and =
they are lying to your face about authenticity, and the representations =
are not what they seem to be.
Norm personally helped me out when I purchased my first car, as well as =
my second, in the hunt for a car, I brought my cell phone and called =
Norm several times.
I ran across 3 cars that where all represented as the " REAL " thing, =
and they where not, Norm helped me with what to look for, and I am by no =
stretch of the imagination an expert, but I know enough, I guess to be =
DANGEROUS..
I end by wishing you all a SUPER weekend, and for those of you in =
Southern Ca.
There is a car show this Sunday, in Moorpark and there are at least 5 or =
6 Tigers going, that I have heard..

I see two good things going on here:

1) Jan had the knowledge beforehand of what to look for when=20
inspecting this car. His knowledge raised doubts in his mind about =
the authenticity of the car.=20

2) Jan verified his suspicion by checking a readily available =
source,=20
in this case Norm's book. As I said before, knowledge is power,=20
keeping things secret about what to look for when buying a Tiger or =
any collector car helps no one in the long run.

I think it IMPORTANT that I bring this to everyone's ATTENTION, I went =

surveyed a car for a very good friend of mine today, as he is out of =
state, and=20
the car is here...

It is advertised as a 1967 MK2 TIGER, and has so apparently been =
advertised for=20
a while.
The car is incredible, stunning, and has parts on it to die for, and =
again I am=20
no expert, but I know enough that when something sounds to good IT IS, =
and IT=20
WAS...
=20
I checked the general points that I have been shown to look for, and =
although=20
somewhat cleaverly masked over, I spotted them.
=20
The seller does state " IT IS A MK2 TIGER !!!!
After I got home, I looked it up in Norm's book, THANK GOD FOR NORM !! =
he has=20
really put us into the 21st century, on the right foot.
The car is in there, and specifically mentioned it as an ALPINE...

In closing, we have to get even closer knit together, and see to that =
this does=20
not happen to anyone out there,
I could just see the egg on my face, if I would have purchased this car =
for my=20
friend.
And he had found all this out !!!! If this was going on in the Ferrari =
club, or=20
the Shelby club, there would be warnings in their newsletters all over, =
it is=20
one thing, to honestly represent the car as a rebody, but quite another =
when=20
some poor sole will get stuck with, granted a COOL car but at a high =
price for=20
what it is...

I would rather not say the name of the seller, as to prevent any legal =
action or
threats (as per my atty's suggestion), but I feel strongly that we need =
to get=20
this out in the open..
As a disclaimer, I will say that I am not a qualified or certified Tiger =
Tach=20
person, and my opinion regarding this matter is an opinion, BUT----BUYER =
BEWARE...In the Los Angeles west side area...Need I say more..
