The material in question is a type of sound deadner consisting of a
sheet of flexible heavy material of rubber-like consistency. It
generally has a peel-off backing with sticky-stuff underneath and can be
applied to the inside of the door skins and any other metal panel you
would like to lower the "drum" like attributes. This could include
hoods, trunks, fender inside trunk, trunk lid, firewalls (INSIDE FOR
HEAT PROTECTION) Etc. Jay bought some for his doors. As I recall the
sticky stuff wasn't really good enough. I am not sure if he ever
finally installed them (ask him). You can also use trim cement (3M
best, but pick the right one) to stick these on. Detroit and Japan make
extensive use of these and fiberglass mat pads for this purpose on their
luxury cars. Undercoating with an asphalt like material has been used
for 60 years to quite cars. Not too good in hot areas under hood or
near exhaust.
