You can retain the heigth adjustment after you cut the rod. I did.
While it is true that you have to pop off the horn button and loosen the
nut (not the driver, but the nut is used to replace the extension that
used to go to the center loosening knob), it still can be done. How often
is someone else driving your car anyway? I would also like to add that
IMHO the steering wheel is really classy looking *and* feels really cool
when driving.
