A couple weeks back someone mentioned Mapquest, the interactive map
service on the Internet. Since I have to find a place out of state in
a couple weeks, I decided to give it a try.
After connecting, the first place I tried was my own house. After
giving it my address, it churned for a minute or so, then filled my
screen with an accurate map of my neighborhood, with a star indicating
my house. I could zoom in or out to get the level of detail I needed.
Neat.
So then I tried my friend's new place, and ended up with another star
that matches up with the verbal description of the route to his house.
Again neat. How about more of a challenge? Another friend has a
place on a lake in Maine, on Fire Road that has no name, just a
number. Mapquest couldn't find the road, but I hunted around the
town, and found the road indicated on the map, unnamed. I even found
the street an acquaintance lives on in Glasgow, Scotland.
Give it a try. It 's at:
