Yeah, my Golf is the same way, and has been for at least 150,000 miles.
The first 90,000 was covered without that silly light coming on too
much. The good news is that I've long since learned to ignore it.

With my wife's Passat the only solution to the check engine light was a
piece of black tape. I am still pissed that I had the car serviced and

for WA from NJ. The check engine light came on before I was 1/2 across
PA.
That light tormented me. Car did ride nice and was very quiet.
