Be very careful about flammable items within about 6 feet of your welding.
Hot sparks are easily capable of igniting materials nearby. Like say... the
rag tucked between the tranny tunnel and passenger seat in the Bugeye four
feet behind me while I welded on the workbench with my back to the car.
Close call, I hide the damage by placing my hat over the area when I park.
Or the box of Christmas lights and leftover bits of dissected
mini-helicopters down below the workbench..... "Gosh honey, three bad
strings of lights this year, go figure". Tell her about that one and I'll
hunt you down.
Anyway, have the fire extinguisher charged and handy. THOROUGHLY check the
area before and after welding for ignitable or already ignited materials
before you go back in the house. That smoldering rag that caught a spark a
minute ago will ruin your day.
Very sincerely
Glen Byrns
