I think IIRC I held the ball in place with pliers and worked around the
fingers lifting one at a time a little bit and jamming them against the
ball. A few times around and the ball popped back in.

Inside the covers of Smiths Heater blower motors.
How do you get the brass ball back into the spring steel fingers?
After many hours of messing with one where the ball came out of the
socket, I trashed another blower motor to save the first.
And now that I trashed my 3rd blower, I have to fix one.
The balls should stay in the socket when the motor cover is slid off the
armature. They don't! So how do you pry back 6 spring steel fingers at
the same time to reset the brass ball?
