Minute cracks in rotor (most likely suspect, Chris, especially with large plug 
gaps which "pull" a lot of electrons from upgraded ignition systems, coils, 
etc.) can be difficult to detect.

Peter C. sells upgraded or beefier rotors
which can take it. Ask me how I know? :)
