I still don't buy it. It would take a whole lot of heat to melt that
solder, especially since the big brass disk is essentially a heat
sink. Even after multiple backfires I've never had a carb that was
too hot to touch. In order for that disk to reach 400 degrees or so
to melt the solder the rest of the carb would have to get pretty hot,
too.
Now, if you do a poor job of soldering, then a good backfire might
blow the holes open. But, I'm pretty confident that I don't have
anything to worry about.
