Heres a slow pitch question that I am just unawares on.
My alternator does seem to be still getting a charge to the battery.
However, after 15 minutes or so of idling it gives off a high whistling
sound only to go away within a few seconds and then the noise returns
periodically every minute or two. I have been told by our brethren that
likely the bearings are shot or without any lubrication. I was even told by
one fellow that what I needed to do was introduce them to some
oil/lubricant.
- Is this possible?
- -Where does one add lube/ oil/grease?
- -Is this usually the death knell of a 32-year-old alternator?
- If so, any recommendations upon who manufactures quality ones and
facsimiles that will allow one to utilize more electrically demanding
components (stereos..etc..)
Thanks in advance for any advice tips or guffaws.
