The Clocktower Resort in Rockford was a perfect venue for our West Meets
East Mini Meet in 2004, and you're right, Blackhawk Farms was a great place to
hold the autocross and the Phil Wicks Driving Clinic and Mini Challenge Races.
Those venues would certainly get a positive vote from me, based on past
experience.
I also have a friend in Iowa who lives about three miles from the Mid
America Motorsports Complex, and he says good things about it. He could be
somewhat
prejudiced however, since it's his home track.

Well....there is a large hotel in Rockford, IL, (USA
central) the Clocktower (PLEASE remember the "L") that
housed the Mini event and Triumph VTR deal the last 2
years. They have a huge parking lot where car shows
an vendors were housed, 5 or so restaurants, etc.
There used to be a huge clock museum that was very
cool, some remnants of it remain. Across the street
is a bank of modern personality-free hotels like the
Hampton, Courtyard, Residence, Holiday, Red Roof, etc.
It is charming and a few years past its prime, like a
lot of us and our cars. I can check into that, we get
a deal from work around $59 per night. A nice country
drive away, maybe 15 miles, is Blackhawk Farms raceway
(www.blackhawkfarms.com) where we can do autocross on
the track, or some wheel-to-wheel action. Boackhawk
has got to be one of the best tracks in the US for
Sprite-sized racing, and it isn't especially
technical. As far as weather is concerned, the
midwest's Annual Nice Day usually occurs in late May
or June, so we could schedule it around then. I'm in
for some organizing if there is interest. There is
also a place in western Iowa, Mid America Motorsports
complex, ain't been there, but I'm told it's pretty
boring.
