Not necessarily. It is actually a safety improvem ent that makes it
unnecessary for the driver's eyes to stray from the road to the radio
to find the knobs or push buttons.

I know that's what they say, Buster, but I think that's a pile of crap.
It's a marketing ploy.
If you have the dexterity to work the controls on the wheel, you can move
your hand 6 inches off the wheel to turn the knob up or down. It takes a
fraction of a second to take your eyes off the road to spot the knob.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, never takes their eyes off the road for several
seconds every single time they drive anywhere. If you are in a position to
not be able to afford to take your eyes off that road for that long, you
shouldn't be screwing around with the radio in the first place.
