Thanks Ron... Your explanation on "why leave the dashpot oil out" makes a
lot of sense.
As for the gearbox, I'll keep the MTL in... Might change the rear axle oil
though - some one on this list asked me if I had "lubricated my rear brakes"
8-) ... and the answer is yes... might try "regular" oil and see if I have
a recurring leak or not... I have not had a leak since I recently changed
the bearings on the axle though. But the car has hardly turned a wheel since
too!

As far as damper oil, in race carbs you don't care about stability, you're
pretty much wide-open throttle all the time, so some eliminate damper oil to
give "right now" full travel on the piston. The damper oil is just that - a
damper. The springs have far more influence in the "controL equation.
