I'm sure it depends on your states laws. Here in NJ you can get a
duplicate title for a few dollars and a trip to the DMV as long as you
have a copy of the registration in your name.

Subject: Title vs. Bill of Sale
I thought I'd send out my query to the collective wisdom of the list on
this one.
As many of you may remember, I got engaged last spring and the wedding
date is fast approaching (June 6th...D-Day). Unfortunately, due to
unforeseen circumstances and expenses, I am forced sell my baby today.
My '71 Midget with the newly rebuilt 1275. :-( I'm getting a pretty
penny for it and visitation rights...so at least I'll get to see her
from time to time. But this brings me to my question: I can't seem to
find the title that I had back when I bought the car. I was 19 and I
didn't really keep up with paperwork. Does a car of this age require a
title or will a bill of sale do?
With a Sad Thank You,
Mike Thompson
