Jurgen,
You didn't by any chance purchase this vehicle from Bellevue (near Seattle,
Washington) did you? That's where I bought mine. My VIN number is
AN5L23245 which would be in the same neighborhood as the car you describe
(Late 1959). My car however, has number plates in the door which suggest
that it is a much later car (in the 44000 to 45000 range) (Late 1960).
Someone has definately done something to my car at some point, I now have to
figure out if it was a legal 'body swap' because the original body was
damaged or something, or if someone has done something illegal. I would
sure hate for that to be the case as I have done a lot to this car since
buying it. Of course, I would rather know for sure and do the right thing
now. Can anyone on the list help? I think maybe I should apply for two of
the BMIHT certificates. One for VIN AN5L23245 and one for the body number
that appears in front of the right door. Can they research the car from
this number? Then, I guess a call to the DMV about what is the status of
the other VIN number when I find it.
Ryan
By the way, my car is registered as a 1960, but that doesn't really help as
the VIN is from a car made in 1959 and the body plate is from a car made in
1960.
