Truth, but YMMV. I saw one of my sisters crack a windscreen this way.
My brother-inlaw used to sell auto glass. He sold quite a bit more
after every ice storm. A quarter inch of ice, 30 degree weather, and hot
or very hot ~200 will finish you window for sure.
