I just went thru this last week.
After checking everything, it turned out to be a bad diaphram in a less
then 3 year old fuel pump. (not an SU but a cheap aftermarker plastic
job that was new in the box and came with the car)
Take a look at how much fuel the pump is pushing, this is what tipped me
off. My car would go great around town, it just could not maintain 65
mph for any length of time.
Also check you float levels and fuel filters.
